19th C. Japanese Cloisonne Enamel on Bronze 12" Lidded Box, Meiji Period
SOLD $3,250.00 Sold: Jan 7, 2025 on eBayOriginal Listing Description
Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for an amazing late 19th Century elaborately decorated Japanese cloisonne on bronze lidded box from the Meiji period (1868-1912). This over sized box has a round shape with slightly rounded top and is decorated with multi-designs over the entire body. The top has a Japanese hand fan theme with colorful medallions and a phoenix bird. The background color is a very deep blue which contrasts nicely with the colorful fans and other decoration. Used within the decoration is goldstone which glistens when the light catches it. There is a multi-pattern decorative panel around the center of the box above and below the bronze band on each piece. Above the foot ring is a wide design of diamond shaped cloisons colored in bronze enamel. The base and interior of the bowl are decorated with heavily applied textured green enamel. With its incredible size, colors and designs, this cloisonne box is worthy of being a part of any 19th Century cloisonne collection! Measures 6 1/2" high and 12" in diameter with a 6" diameter foot ring. Weighs 5.6 pounds. This nice quality lidded box is in excellent Estate condition with the only noted flaw being some minor denting on the bronze collar on the bowl that is covered by the lid/cover. These flaws are negligible for an item of this age. There is the expected tiny pitting in the enamel which is normal on these older pieces and occurs during the firing process, however, there is no noted damage to the enameling. We are happy to ship Internationally however, please be aware that we as sellers can not be responsible for any random Customs inspections or charges incurred with this purchase.
